In a recent interview, William Shatner, the 91-year-old Star Trek star, opened out about his mortality ahead of the premiere of his documentary, “You Can Call Me Bill.” Shatner confessed that he doesn’t have much time left to live, but he wanted to film the documentary in order to communicate with his grandchildren after his death.
He stated that his time was limited and that he wanted to leave something for his loved ones to remember him by. Shatner has five grandchildren from his three prior marriages and is a proud grandfather.
Alexandre O. Philippe’s documentary will have its world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas. The documentary also features Shatner’s daughters, Leslie, Lisabeth, and Melanie. Shatner spoke to The Guardian in 2014 about his grandchildren and how being a grandfather has provided him the most joy in life. He stated that he spends time talking to them, hugging and kissing them, and sharing some of the things he has learnt throughout his lengthy career.
Shatner made headlines recently after reconciling with his ex-wife, Elizabeth Martin, three years after their $2 million divorce. In January, the pair spoke honestly about their rediscovered enthusiasm at the Living Legends of Aviation Awards in Beverly Hills.
Elizabeth, according to Shatner, is full of life, and their love is “cinnamon.” Shatner and Elizabeth finalised their divorce in March 2020. Shatner retained ownership of his Studio City home and ranch in Three Rivers, California, while Elizabeth obtained their homes in Malibu Cove and Versailles, Kentucky, as well as a piece of her family property in Indiana.
Shatner has been married four times in his life. From 1956 to 1969, he was married to Gloria Rand, with whom he had three children. In 1973, he married Marcy Lafferty, with whom he remained married until 1996. His third marriage was with Nerine Kidd Shatner, who died in 1999. In 2001, he married Elizabeth, and they were married until their divorce in 2019.
Shatner maintains an active work and personal life despite his age and health. He has a close relationship with his family and is always working on new ventures. “You Can Call Me Bill,” his documentary, is just one example of how he want to leave a legacy for his loved ones.
Shatner is an inspiration to many people, and his open remarks on mortality serve as a reminder to treasure the time we have with our loved ones.
