Al Roker’s wife Deborah Roberts shared a heartbreaking new update… sending all our prayers to the family!

Al Roker, the longtime Today show anchor, has been experiencing health issues for some time now.

In November 2022, Al Roker was hospitalized due to blood clots, causing concern among his supporters. In response, Roker took to social media to explain his absence from the Today show.

Starting his post by thanking his well-wishers, Roker wrote, “So many of you have been thoughtfully asking where I’ve been. Last week, I was admitted to the hospital with a blood clot in my leg, which sent some clots into my lungs.” He assured his followers that he was on the road to recovery. However, he later suffered a setback and had to be readmitted to the hospital. Unfortunately, his condition worsened, and he was unable to appear in the Thanksgiving Parade, marking the first time in years he had to miss the event.

Earlier this year, he came back to the show and spoke candidly of his health condition, admitting something his fans weren’t aware of up until that moment.

Al Roker shared that he had been dealing with multiple health issues, including blood clots that he believes resulted from his bout with COVID-19 in September. In addition, he experienced internal bleeding that required surgical intervention.

During his appearance on Today, Roker spoke about the extent of his surgery, joking that he went in for one operation but ended up receiving four. His medical team at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center discovered two bleeding ulcers and performed a seven-hour surgery that involved re-sectioning his colon, removing his gallbladder, and repairing part of his small intestine.

According to Dr. Felice H. Schnoll-Sussman, Al’s gastroenterologist, Roker’s condition was a cause for grave concern. She said, “We were extraordinarily concerned about Al. Extraordinarily concerned. He had a life-threatening experience. I mean, there’s just no doubt about that.” During the ordeal, Roker lost nearly half of his blood.

Deborah Roberts, Al Roker’s wife, who is a Senior National Affairs Correspondent at ABC News, spoke about the couple’s harrowing experience during Roker’s health scare. She shared that her husband’s condition had baffled doctors for a couple of weeks, making it a tumultuous and frightening journey for the family.

Despite the severity of his illness, Roberts said that Roker was a “living, breathing miracle.” She added, “He really is, and I have to say – I’m not overstating it, I don’t think – Al was a very, very, very sick man. And I think most people did not know that.”

And now that everyone believed the worst was over, Roberts made an announcement that came as a surprise to many.

In a video she shared on her Instagram account, Roberts said that she needed a break.

“Sometimes your body says ‘Enough. It’s time to take a break, recharge, renew’ and I think my body is screaming that right now,” she said.

“So I am going to do just that. I’m going to take a little breather, take a couple of days and try to refresh and recharge.

“Going to sign off social media and just do a little focus on me…I’ll see ya when I see ya.”

She, however, assured her fans that they would see her on ABC again next week.

Well, everyone needs a break sometimes and it is great when we see people prioritizing their health over everything else.

We wish Roker and Roberts health.
