He was in the car with his family when the accident claimed his life. All because of a stolen vehicle.
On Sunday evening, a tragic incident occurred in West Garfield Park that resulted in the death of a 6-month-old infant boy. The incident involved a Hyundai Sonata that had been reported stolen, which collided with a Ford pickup truck traveling northbound on Kostner.
Following the collision, the stolen Hyundai Sonata crashed into a light pole, while the Ford pickup truck collided head-on with a large tree. Tragically, a 6-month-old infant boy named Cristian Uvidia was in the back seat of the truck at the time of the accident. Cristian was later pronounced dead on Monday afternoon at Stroger Hospital, while his mother and two sisters were also transported to the hospital and listed in serious to critical condition.
The entire ordeal was caught on the surveillance camera of a man named Shawn Walker who witnessed the crash.
“Walker shared that upon discovering the unresponsive baby, they immediately began performing CPR in an attempt to revive him. Their primary objective was to restore the baby’s pulse.”
According to authorities, the stolen Hyundai Sonata was being driven by two teenagers aged 14 and 17 who were joyriding at the time of the tragic accident. Both individuals have been taken into custody and charged with possessing a stolen vehicle.
The devastating loss of Cristian Uvidia has left a profound impact on his family. Annelisse Rivera, a relative of the family, shared with CBS News, “Our lives were impacted completely forever. The joy of our life was taken. His life was priceless. The fact that his life was taken in one second for somebody that was like looking for a stolen car – as if his life amounted to a price of a car.”
A GoFundMe page has been established to assist the Uvidia family with the funeral expenses. The page details the circumstances surrounding Cristian’s death, stating that he sustained a skull fracture and brain swelling as a result of the impact, ultimately leading to his passing.

The GoFundMe page set up in memory of Cristian Uvidia also expressed the immense grief felt by his family, stating, “We are devastated, and we are broken. We will miss his sweet smile, as he was a joy to everyone that he met.”
In addition to funeral costs, a portion of the funds raised will be allocated to cover the medical expenses of Cristian’s mother and two sisters, who are currently in stable condition following the accident.
Rest in peace little one.
